A Holy Week Reminder

IMAGINE this.
The president has issued a presidential decree that all citizens of the Philippines can only take a bath for once a year. It was justified. This was part of the president's contigent plan, foreseeing the possibility of a worldwide water shortage for the next five years.
You'll freak out. Who won't?
Look. The consequence will be fatal. The price of Axe deocologne will reach skies. They wouldn't need Cupid's endorsement just to attract buyers or spend high on commercials and promotions. People will flock to supermarkets and grocery stores to buy deodorants and perfumes. That might not be practical considering that people could spend a huge amount of their income on deodorants.
Bottled water will forever be banned. Perhaps, some brands might stay but with a price that only the affluent can afford. And to those who could not afford bottled water, they'll be contented with the waters on rivers and lakes. Oh, what if you leave beside the Pasig River?
Tuition fees will be soaring. Instructors won't allow students to raise their hands in answering questions. School will probably install buzzers on the desks of the students for purposes of oral discussion.
El Shaddai and Inglesia ni Cristo will likely be affected. The members of these charismatic groups won't be allowed to raise their hands in worship. If they insist, Velarde and Manalo will tender their irrevocable resignation as head ministers.
Basketball players will complain. The height of the standard ring will be reduced to 3 feet. Crazy. The 6 feet players will no longer stand out from the rest of the smaller players. Or maybe, tall players can only settle to coach a basketball team.
Then, the president issued another presidential decree banning the manufacturing of toothpaste here in the Philippines. Again, it was justified. It was discovered that the production of toothpaste have caused dental damages recently.
Another bombshell, it is. This time you won't just freak out. you'll be an advocate of anarchy. You'll go national teevee. You'll support Ed Kabalu. You'll hang a picture of Joma Sison in your room. Perhaps, you'll begin reading Karl Marx's Communism and find glory in praising Mao Zedong's Red China.
Imagine again.
This time, you'll enroll in a sign language class. Rather than spend time mastering those analytical geometric formulas, Histology, or the pretty much annoying SFAS, you'll soon discover that Kapwa Ko Mahal Ko's interpreter is a lucrative job, after all.
After people buying deodorants, Listerine will flood the market. The higher the prices, the more money is spent on deodorants and breath refresheners. An average wage worker will complain. Who would not?
And, here's what I would really dread with the executive order.
I can only kiss Angel Locsin for like once a year. Gone were the days of smacks and French Kisses. Angel will not like that. Argh. And so with the Chinese girlfriend from HongKong. Yeah, she would not mind missing a kiss from the head admin had it been for SARS but hey, for a presidential decree? The couple might not settle down here in Philly. Ask Nestor.
The same goes with our emotional self.
When other people hurt us, punch us in the nose, sliced our body with a chainsaw, or better yet, slam our head with a sledgehammer, we rarely able to forgive.
When we hurt other people like spamming their emails with some joke-joke-joke, beat them with a high score in lemonadegame.com, or making love with their girlfriends, we rarely ask for forgiveness.
How many times do we go to confession to ask for pardon to our sins? Once a year, eh? How many sleeping nights when we really enjoy the sounds of peace and silence, because we have asked forgiveness and forgive someone? Once a year, eh?
If God can complain, you know what would he tell us about our soul? He'd probably say, " Your soul stinks!". Fortunately, God is always a good God. He always gives us a chance even though we don't ask for it.
Our emotional self needs to be refresh. Like our body, it is necessary to wash away those emotional scars that hinders us from living the present and facing the future. Remember that every event in our life changes us. It may be for better or for worse. However, in the long run, when we learn to accept things, forgive people, and mend things in our life, waking up in the morning brings good days. Try that.
When someone stabs in the back with a dagger, it is good to say," Argh, That hurts...( pause ) You're forgiven because I love you." Instead of saying the usual " You madda [ censored ]. Son of a [ censored], I'll kill ya!", the former is better. Which one is pleasing to the ears?
When we slam someone with a steel chair, it is good to say, " I'm sorry man, I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to make you cry. But tonight, I'm cleaning up your closet!" Heh, what do you think we would do? He'll thrash out with the lines, " picket signs for mah wicked rhymes..." Then, both of you will talk about Eminem's current album," Eminem Show." That would warm any heart.
What now? Stop scrolling down your browser and stop reading this article. Go and call the guy you met in IRC, who courted you on the phone, had an eyeball in school and dumped him afterwards. Explain your side. And for Pete's sake, hit him back when he sends you "canned" mushy-mushy love notes.
It seems to me you won't move. I said, "Move you.." Why not visit your ex-girlfriend who lives few blocks away from your house? Tell her that you feel guilty this time. What, she'll bug you more with that? Okay. Fine. Whatever. You have your reasons. Hey, bud, it's Lenten Season. Patch things up with her. I said Patch things up!
Anyway, if you can't, I won't force you. Let time heals. What is important is the willingness of the soul to seek for forgiveness. One must have the decision to mend their lives and change things in order to have a fruitful confession.
You can't imagine a life without water and toothpaste. What about a life without asking and seeking for forgiveness? I guess it's time for us to reflect this time.
:.Postscript.: [ An action plan ] : Surprise an enemy by patching things up with him just in time for the Lenten Season next week. Give him a ring and tell him how sorry you are for the things you have done. Trust me, you'll feel good after. Okay, that's it for now. May we have a fruitful and reflective Holy Week next week!
