I AM writing this article in response to the pressing demands from xoutdeyes. I have noticed that for the past years of my IRC life, I haven't devoted a single literature on it. Perhaps, it is high time for me to write one.
Whoever introduced me to the world of internet relay chat must be forever damned. Not Khaled Mardam Bey. Give the guy the credit for creating this shareware version without us guys paying the supposed 20 dollar registration. You bet, the first time I entered a cyber chatroom has been a lifetime pledge to stay in IRC for life. Ask Nestor, the chronic IRC addict.
For the past five years, I have been in and out of IRC. Last year, I was definitely out of the cyber world. I have realized that the people I used to macked with were no longer active. Until lately. I was out of the scene for a year and when I returned, I felt I was a total stranger to everybody. Realizations were quick. I started to get conscious with my age, as I began to relate with people younger than me. Then, I have to learn the Cservice commands again. Starting with the basics, the whole process was like working on square one. Pretty bad for a comebacking junkie.
Yeah. Now, I am all back on track. And so with Nestor who is currently engrossed with the revival of his channel, #frens4ever. Speaking of #frens4ever, I cannot help but reminisce. Ah, the days where Cupid was a commodity like the Chinese girlfriend from Hongkong. No wonder, he has to audition in that Axe commercial these days. Really, the channel gave me a illuminating perception of a cyber love turned real. Love teams were there. Just like in the movies. Alas, I was a mere moviegoer.
It was late when I joined the #frens4ever regulars. If I could remember it right, Dexter invited me in the late 1999. Right after the channel's two Grand Eyeball. I was naive then that certain loveteams existed. In fact, only after two months of idling and talking to Dexter that I have discovered those things. Had it been earlier, I would have written a detailed account of the romantic interlude between alex_13 and angela_13. Sentimental Nostalgia. Ask Nestor.
The first loveteam I ever knew was that of Munky and Mikah. The affair was a rollercoaster ride. Munky's unfamiliarity to affection proved to be a struggle for his part. The experience left him a defaced reality of what love should have been in the eyes of the ideals. They exchanged sweet notes.I can attest to that. Oppositions were great. In the end, fate was inevitable. The destined verdict was not on Munky's side. Mikah never returned to IRC. Munky is still going online and with a different nick every once in a while.
The second loveteam. Alex_13 and Angela_13. I am thinking twice right now whether I would include the story or not. I might be stripped of my admin rights if I have to force my way. So to cut the story short, Alex_13 have lost his love for Angela_13 in eternity. Could that be because Alex_13 has been enlightened by what is "reality"? Reality bites. A better man admits his mistakes and does not insists in them. Indeed, Alex_13 is the better man. Applause for Alex_13. Correct me if I am wrong, Nestor.
Next. Adieu Munky. Mushi Mushi Cutie. Back in love's ways again, Munky has never been smarter. This time with luvyah, Mikah's cousin. Could that be his idea of vindication? The relationship was on and off. Formalities were not apparent. No blank and white, whatsoever. Munky has found his one great love. I am just not sure with luvyah. It all ended in a hanging farewell.
The on and off relationship between Cutie and luvyah paved the way for untimely flings. There was A. For the record, this was the girl who was with Munky in a decent escape in the 2000 Foundation Days. Mind you, the girl was obssessed with Munky. There was R, too. I don't know the real score but I guess Munky plainly emulated Alex_13 in this case. No more elaborations here. I might get sued for libel.
It all didn't work out for Munky until he decided to go steady with the girl in the neighboorhood who happened to be a #frens4ever regular those days. So Munky kept the relationship going for a year, hoping he could forget luvyah. In the process of forgetting luvyah, Munky saw the light. He realized that he was not ready for any commitment. For now, Munky is still waiting for luvyah. Actually, Munky told Deranged the complete story of the Munky-luvyah affair. You can ask Deranged.
Those were the days. The Fridays and Saturdays where people are active talking on the channel. The all time favorite flooders. DryIce for acting like a bot. Yes, the love teams. The Grand Eyeballs that I didn't show up. Ah, I cannot help but reminisce.
Some may stay. Some maybe gone. However, in the final analysis, #frens4ever will always be wrongly spelled. I don't know who suggested a channel name like that but I am certain that Randy Nilles shall be disgusted over that spelling.
The channel will stay, as long as the Cservice admins will accept the pending application and Nestor still online in IRC with Seenbots and Biogesic.
As they say, " All is fair in IRC, love and #frens4ever..."
:. Postscript.: I wasn't part of #frens4ever love teams. The first two IRC years brought to the discovery of cyber love turned real. Hands on, they say. For the next IRC years, I have devoted to learning to park my nick, watch the conversations in the channel and using the 499 access n3stor gave me.
